It’s been quite a number of years since the first “yellow” petunia was available from seed. I don’t even remember the name of it anymore, but I was so disappointed when it bloomed and it was nothing more than a very pale cream wannabe.
Boerner Botanical Gardens has several yellow petunia cultivars growing side by side in their test garden this year. Some of them are getting much closer to a true yellow petunia.
‘Madnessâ„¢ Yellow Improved’ (pictured above) grows 10-15 inches tall and has a mounded habit. I like how the petals are crinkled at the edges. It has a nice splash of yellow.
The ‘Trailing LoGro Yellow’ petunias in the test garden were very healthy and vigorous, but still a little too pale in color for my taste:
My favorite was Proven Winner ‘Supertunia Citrus’ which grows 6-10 inches high and doesn’t need deadheading.
