Daylily: Pandora’s Box

I’m not fond of white flowers, and small-flowering daylilies don’t excite me either, but I make exceptions for ‘Pandora’s Box.’  This miniature daylily is a workhorse. While most daylilies bloom less in part-shade, ‘Pandora’s Box’ shrugs and keeps the fresh flowers coming for up to two months.

‘Pandora’s Box’ is an oldie but a goodie. In 2010, the cultivar will be 30 years old, so it won’t dent your pocketbook. You can purchase Pandora’s Box’ for less than 6 dollars.

The scapes grow 19 inches high with 4-inch cream-colored flowers (that often appear bright white) and a purple eyezone. The flowers are cheerful and fragrant.

If you want a pretty, can’t-fail plant for your garden, ‘Pandora’s Box’ does not disappoint.
