The first daylily to bloom in my garden this year is ‘Stella in Yella’. This unregistered daylily is a relative of the famous ‘Stella D’Oro’. I purchased ‘Stella in Yella’ from Oakes Daylilies many years ago. The plant has probably been moved around my yard a dozen times since then and it always rallies.
For many years ‘Stella in Yella’ was growing in almost full shade, so I was always amazed when the plant still rewarded me with many scapes full of blooms each summer.
‘Stella in Yella’ grows 12 inches tall with 3.5-inch flowers and has the same heavy blooming (and reblooming) characteristics of ‘Stella D’Oro’, but the flowers are bright yellow rather than gold.
