Sedum ‘Autumn Fire’

In early fall the sedums (stonecrop) are among just a few perennials still blooming in my flowerbeds. They are a favorite of bumblebees and honeybees, and I also love the fact that the plants aren’t bothered by insects, rodents or diseases.

‘Autumn Fire’ has flowers that are just a little darker and hold up a bit little longer than the classic sedum, ‘Autumn Joy’:

‘Autumn Fire’ grows 2 to 3 feet tall. Most catalogs and websites indicate ‘Autumn Joy’ grows best in full sun, but I’ve been especially impressed with the performance of my plants in shady locations. I have to stake them, but the lack of light does not seem to at all affect the quantity or quality of blooms.

The plants are easy to divide and will grow into large, long-lived clumps.
