I wanted to try ‘Merry Christmas’ because it only grows 12 inches tall but features whopping 8-inch flowers.
My plant sent up one 9-inch-tall stalk with 4 flowers that all tried to open at once with no room to spare:
The result was a smashed-up mess. And for some reason this one spewed pollen everywhere. The flowers also faded quickly and didn’t last very long.
‘Merry Christmas’ gets rave reviews on the internet, and there are plenty of gorgeous photos of the 8-inch flowers in full bloom, but that’s not what I got.
So far the bulb only sent up that one stalk. I’m hoping for a second one just to see if things improve. If not, there are many more interesting cultivars to take its place in my bay window next year.
