I forgot to mention in my post about lilies last week that there’s one lily that will definitely remain a mystery to me this year (and perhaps forever if it doesn’t survive). Rude Mrs. Bunny committed plant terrorism on one of my Oriental lilies.
Not only did she slice my plant in half and eat the top part including all the flower buds, but she felt it was also necessary to pluck off and eat every single leaf on the remaining stalk. All that’s left is a pathetic, stubby stick in the ground:
Like tulip bulbs, lily bulbs absorb nutrients from the plant’s leaves for next year’s blooms. Since my poor plant has NO LEAVES this could be a problem.
I’m secretly glad that I forgot to label the plant so I won’t know what I’m missing.
