Another one of my new amaryllis bulbs is blooming. ‘Trentinto’ has creamy-white flowers with pinkish petal margins and a green throat.
When the sun shines on the flowers their color transforms to butter yellow:
‘Trentino’ is known for having a high flower-to-bulb ratio, but so far my bulb has behaved like most of my other amaryllis…sending up one stalk with 6 flowers on it.
‘Trentino’ was developed for pot culture, so the stalks only grow 18-24 inches tall. My flower stalk topped out at 20 inches. It appeared sturdy even with all 6 flowers blooming, so I didn’t stake it. However, last weekend I found the pot tipped over. Thankfully there wasn’t any damage to the flowers or the stalk.
I’ve learned my lesson. Stake all amaryllis no matter what size.
