I have one dud amaryllis bulb that has been staring back at me without any sign of growth for 2 months now.
This past weekend I finally got sick of looking at it and decided I would pop it out of the pot and do a little investigating. Amaryllis bulbs can rot if they sit in wet soil, and I was concerned I might have overwatered my cranky bulb.
The soil was only damp at the very bottom of the pot. And while I discovered a couple of rotted roots, the rest of them were dry and looked healthy. I gave the bulb a little squeeze and it still felt solid and healthy.
I’m a notoriously impatient gardener, but because this cultivar’s blooms are supposedly quite spectacular, I will give this unruly little bulb a few more weeks to get its act together.
