Orienpet Lily ‘Lavon’

I want to like Orienpet Lily ‘Lavon’, but I fear the color is just too light for my tastes.

‘Lavon’ shares the same fine qualities as the other Orienpet lilies—tolerance to late Midwestern frosts, sturdy stems that get more impressive each year and an indifference to being planted in full sun or part-shade.

‘Lavon’ is supposed to have pale to deep-yellow outfacing flowers with a raspberry starburst, but my flowers were more of a cream color. I suppose I shouldn’t make any judgments until the flowers bloom again this summer because last year’s heat and drought made all the plants in my garden behave in peculiar ways.

Even if ‘Lavon’ decides to stick with cream-colored flowers, I could probably make the most of it by moving around some of the neighboring perennials. A dark-pink daylily companion might really bring out that starburst.

‘Lavon’ grows 4 to 6 feet tall in Zones 4-8. The plants bloom in late July and early August.
