Daylilies are probably the easiest most carefree perennials available, but if I had to pick one cultivar that even horticulturally-challenged people can grow with ease it would be ‘Red Volunteer’:
‘Red Volunteer’ has heavy, rich-red blooms that appear for 6-8 weeks (or more) each summer, and unlike many of the darker-colored daylilies, the flowers don’t fade in the afternoon sun.
‘Red Volunteer’ grows 30 inches tall, so it makes a great anchor for the back of the border. The huge, 7-inch flowers draw attention wherever they are planted. They blend well with many colors in the garden including yellow, orange, white, pink and even purple.
The best part is that the plants aren’t the least bit fussy. Just stick them in the ground and let them do their thing.
‘Red Volunteer’ grows well in full sun or partial shade. For a stunning display grow several plants together.
