I had great fun growing amaryllis bulbs indoors last winter (like ‘Red Pearl’ below). It’s about the only bulb I can grow that won’t get destroyed by a rodent. I picked up a few new amaryllis cultivars to try out this winter.
I also enjoy forcing tulips for a mid-winter pick-me-up, but this year I don’t have any room for them. You have to cold-treat tulip bulbs in the refrigerator for 8-12 weeks, but because of my CSA I just don’t have any room in the crisper drawer (or in the entire refrigerator for that matter) this year.
