Flower Ideas: Show Me…Something Purple

Salvia ‘Saga Blue’ is an annual with lovely dark-purple flowers. The plants are supposed to grow 10 inches tall, but I’ve grown this plant in my garden for a number of years now and it always gets much taller—from 15 inches up to two feet.

The plants are free of diseases and pests and will bloom all summer long into fall if you keep them deadheaded.

‘Wayside King Royale’ is a very heavy-blooming daylily with flowers in a color I can only describe as “grape.” I’ve split my original plant many times and the new clumps always establish themselves quickly no matter where I plant them.

This cultivar grows 36 inches tall with 6-inch flowers that appear in early summer and continue putting on a show for more than a month.

Petunia ‘Opera Supreme Blue’ is a spreading petunia with velvety dark-purple flowers. The plants grow 6 to 10 inches tall but can spread up to 5 feet.

Opera petunias don’t die out in the middle like so many other petunia cultivars do, so they’ll look fresh all summer long tumbling out of window boxes or containers or even meandering through your garden.
