I’m quite tickled with Asiatic Lily ‘Orange Cocotte’. In its second year in my garden the plants grew another foot taller and showered me with flowers for almost a month.
The blooms of this cultivar are much smaller than a regular Asiatic lily—only 4 inches across:
The flowers are a pretty cantaloupe-orange color and sit atop the plant’s stem like tiny little fireworks.
A few of the flowers this year were polymerous which means that rather than the normal 3 petals and 3 sepals, there were more. These flowers had a whopping 5 petals and sepals:
‘Orange Cocotte’ grows 2 to 3 feet tall. The plants do well in sun or part-shade and bloom in late June and early July. This cultivar has a sibling, ‘Yellow Cocotte’ with golden-yellow flowers that have a tiny red outline on the petals. I just may have to give it a try next year.
