When I was potting up my amaryllis bulbs, I made little markers so I would know which cultivar was which. At one point I zoned out and got one off and the next 3 bulbs I potted up had the wrong markers in them. I thought I’d fixed the error until I saw this flower. It’s supposed to be ‘Lagoon’ which is a deep-pink amaryllis:
It’s definitely not ‘Lagoon’, but I looked up my other cultivars and it’s not one of those either. Someone must’ve made a shipping mistake or I have a mutant on my hands.
The plant is a bit of a homely thing, but eager. The bulb sent up 2 scapes. One is 14 inches tall with 5 flowers all beginning to open. The other continued to 22 inches tall and has 4 big buds on it.
Even though it’s not the prettiest amaryllis I’ve ever seen, I must admit it’s kind of a nice break from all the solid red and pink ones I grew this year.
