Because I was so enamored with the beautiful trilliums I’ve seen along the trails during spring hikes, I decided to try growing a few of my own.
We have a tiny woodland-type area on the east side of our house under two oak trees. Dutchman’s Breeches have done well there over the years, so I thought why give them some company? My favorite perennials nursery sells several types of trilliums, but I went with their “select” mix:
Even if I never get them to bloom I can always admire the mottled foliage.
If they do bloom, the flowers in this mix will be white, yellow or red. Right now they are getting buried under some taller hostas and astilbes, but that’s life in the woods.
I’m excited to see what they do next spring.
