By replacing most of my tulips with daffodils last fall, I avoided much of the rodent shenanigans of past years (although I still had issues with rodents attacking the tulips I didn’t dig up).
I have several daylily beds, and daffodils make perfect companions. They add some lovely spring color, but when they’re done blooming and the foliage starts dying back it’s quickly covered by daylily foliage.
One particularly impressive cultivar was ‘Ceylon’. This large-cupped narcissus has a bright-yellow perianth and an orange cup that fades to yellow in the center:
The flowers are up-facing and withstood wind and rain like a champ. They also didn’t fade in the sun.
‘Ceylon’ grows 16 inches tall and is hardy in Zones 3-7.
