Last summer when I was picking out daffodil bulbs to buy and plant in the fall, ‘Fragrant Rose’ caught my attention. The flowers are supposed to smell like roses, and I decided that sounded like fun. When my plants came up this spring I shoved my sniffer in the very first flowers that appeared and sure enough, the scent is definitely reminiscent of roses.
The flower petals are pure white and the cup is a pretty apricot-pink.
I was a little worried about the flowers because when they first appeared the were very down-facing. Eventually they straightened up just enough not to drive me crazy (I detest down-facing flowers), but they maintained a slight downward nod throughout their blooming season.
‘Fragrant Rose’ looks lovely planted with yellow daffodils like ‘Falconet’:
‘Fragrant Rose’ grows 13 to 18 inches tall and is hardy in Zones 3-8.
