I lost several Zone 4 perennials over the winter, so I should just be glad that my ‘Sombrero Salsa’ echinacea (coneflower) is still alive and kicking. But after two rough winters in a row, my plant has definitely suffered a setback. It’s very small this year, but thankfully it’s still blooming:
‘Sombrero Salsa’ grows 24 to 26 inches tall with shockingly-bright red flowers that have just a slight orange tinge to them. The plants are compact and the flower stems are sturdy.
It’s taking a bit longer than I expected for this cultivar to get established in my garden, but I think it’s worth the wait.
