What kind of person buys a plant with the name “fragrant” in it but doesn’t even take as little as a whiff of the flowers all summer long? Whoops. I have it on my to-do list for later this spring when ‘Fragrant Angel’ starts blooming again.
I added this coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) to my front yard last May when I needed a tall, back-row plant that could survive winter’s bitter north winds.
When mature, ‘Fragrant Angel’ grows about 40 inches tall. My plant only reached 30 inches but it was adjusting to its new surroundings. I was pleasantly surprised by how close to pure white the flowers are.
‘Fragrant Angel’ grows in an upright clump in full sun to part shade. The plants are carefree and thrive in just about any soil.
The flowers are fragrant (or so they say) and begin appearing in early summer. ‘Fragrant Angel’ is hardy in Zones 3-8.
