I didn’t sleep very well last night. We had patchy frost in the forecast (very unusual but not unheard of in southern Wisconsin in early June), and I had dreams all night that I was scrambling around trying to save all my flowers and vegetables.
When my alarm clock finally went off at 6:30 this morning, I waited anxiously for someone on the radio to tell me the temperature. “It’s currently 47 degrees in Madison.” WHEW, a botched forecast. I’ll take it!
The only vegetables I was able to protect last night were the ones I’m growing in containers. My husband and I lugged them all into the garage.
My heirloom tomato is just about ready to blossom:
And I already have several baby peppers on my orange bell pepper plant:
In a move I’m sure to regret, I’m even growing zucchini in containers this year. The one I bought as a plant from the garden center is blossoming, and the ones I started from seed are getting bigger every day:
