A few days after I planted the snap peas and lettuce plants that I impulse purchased at a garden center back in May we had a week of record-breaking temperatures in the 90s(F). I thought for sure both vegetables would say “Uh uhhh. Way too hot here!” and bolt. But thankfully since that week we’ve had below-average temps and both are thriving and contributing to some delicious salads.
And those birthday tomatoes are getting ready to ripen. They will be my earliest-harvested tomatoes ever, but the chipmunk parents that hang out in our yard just had more babies and there are currently little tomato-eating critters running around in every direction. It will be a race to see who gets first dibs!
