The race to be the first daylily to bloom in my yard each summer is usually a contest between ‘Double Cutie’ and ‘Stella in Yella’. This year ‘Buttered Popcorn’ beat them both. It bloomed one day before ‘Stella in Yella’. Better luck next year, Stella.
I grow hundreds of daylily cultivars and ‘Buttered Popcorn’ is one of the most reliable and long-blooming of the bunch.
This cultivar grows happily in sun or partial-shade, and the number of golden-yellow flowers that can appear at a time on one plant is amazing:
‘Buttered Popcorn’ grows 32 inches tall with 6-inch fragrant flowers. This daylily makes a beautiful accent plant in the garden or you can use it to add pizzazz to the landscape along a driveway, a fence or near a mailbox.
This tough daylily blooms for several months in the summer and sometimes it even reblooms in my Zone 5 garden. It’s hardy in Zones 4-11.
‘Buttered Popcorn’ was registered in 1971 and continues to be a popular, well-loved daylily more than 40 years later.
