It took over a decade, but the Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) plants my brother-in-law shared with me years ago have finally started to spread out into a nice little spring display.
These ferny-looking plants bloom for a few weeks each spring and then die back and disappear completely by June. The plants are so-named because the flowers resemble little pants hanging on a clothesline (if anyone remembers what a clothesline is anymore).
These native woodland wildflowers prefer shade to part-shade conditions in moist soil.
