I’ve been growing Moonstruck marigolds for several summers now, and I still adore them. The flower heads are so huge and so tightly-whorled that Japanese beetles can’t even burrow their chubby faces inside.
The plants grow about 18 inches tall and the flowers are very bright and can be seen from across the yard. ‘Moonstruck Yellow’ (pictured) is my favorite. There’s also an orange and a lemon yellow.
The germination rate for these marigolds is outstanding. I start them indoors 6 weeks before spring planting time (which for me is about the 3rd week of May so I start them in mid-April). I’ve never had a problem with any pests or diseases on the plants, and they bloom all summer long until frost.
