Starting Off the Season

It’s been quite a while since I’ve grown Allium christophii (Star of Persia), but I planted some fresh bulbs last fall in various flowerbeds.

I forgot that this cultivar blooms much later than some of the other allium cultivars like ‘Purple Sensation’. That makes them the first perennials to bloom in my flowerbeds this summer.

The bulbs grow 14 to 24 inches tall with star-shaped lavender flowers, and they are resistant to rabbits and deer.

Allium christophii blooms in early summer and is hardy in Zones 4-8.
