All 21 of my tomatoes have leaves that look like this. A week ago we had a frost advisory. Could they have gotten nipped? Or is this sunburn from not hardening off long enough? I don’t think it’s the latter because I brought my tomatoes out of the basement a week before all the other plants, so they should’ve been the least likely of all my 3000 plants to get sunburned. The rest of the plants look fine.
Thankfully new leaves are already popping out of the tops of all of my traumatized tomatoes.
But the leaves that were burned (frost or sun!) are now all turning brown and falling off. I hope the plants have enough other leaves to keep them healthy. We’re about to enter a stretch of 90 degree (F) days without rain, and we’re in the midst of a moderate drought—all of my plants will be stressed. Yesterday the counties to our southeast were upgraded to a severe drought.
Last year the critters ate or damaged most of my tomatoes before I got to enjoy them (except the cherry tomatoes). I’m going to be really sad if this year I can’t even keep them alive long enough to try to outwit the critters!
