Amaryllis ‘Exotic Star’

Amaryllis ‘Exotic Star’ is described as “glamorous” and “breathtaking” but I think those descriptions are overblown. It definitely looks different than any other amaryllis cultivar I’ve grown, but it’s more weird than anything. Maybe I’ll be more impressed when the second stalk starts blooming.

This cultivar has “chartreuse-green” petals with maroon veins—again very different for an amaryllis. My problem with it is that the flowers don’t like to open all the way and there are only 2 flowers on my bulb’s first scape—stingy!

‘Exotic Star’ is a Dutch amaryllis that grows 18-24 inches tall. Both scapes from my bulb topped out at 18 inches.

If the second scape can cough up a few more flowers, I might be a bigger fan of this raved-about amaryllis.
