Despite the possibility of more attacks by sawfly larvae, I’m going to grow hollyhocks again this summer. The tall plants are a great anchor for the back of the border, and the flowers are gorgeous (plus bumblebees love them).
Last winter I started my plants from seeds indoors 8 weeks before I intended to plant them outside in May. They started blooming in late July, so this year I’m going to start them a week or two early. Maybe that way I’ll also throw off the sawfly larvae!
