Amaryllis ‘Sofia’

My Amaryllis ‘Sofia’ bulb was a little bit too eager to please. It tried to cram too many flowers on its first scape and there wasn’t enough room for them all. I had to help 2 of the buds open because they sat partially open for several days without any forward progress. A third partially-open bud had already given up and was starting to deteriorate.

‘Sofia’ is a pretty, white amaryllis with red striations on the edge of each petal.

The first scape on my bulb topped out at 15 inches with five, 6-inch flowers. The second scape is already starting to bloom at 13 inches. That one has 3 flowers.

‘Sofia’ is a Dutch single amaryllis.
