The snowdrops I discovered blooming in the middle of February managed to thrive despite 2 big snowstorms and one sleet/ice storm. Once the snow melted this week, there they were—still looking as good as they did 2 weeks ago!
It’s a good thing there are hardy spring bulbs like these because on my walk around the block yesterday I spied my first honeybees of the season. One was flying around my head and the other was trying to warm up on the pavement.
People are reporting that Sandhill Cranes and Turkey Vultures have also returned to Wisconsin, but so far I haven’t seen or heard any. But I did see a first-of-the-year Red-winged Blackbird on our backyard bird feeder yesterday.
It’s coming!
