Nicotiana (flowering tobacco) plants thrive in my flowerbeds because they can handle part-shade conditions. These annuals grow anywhere from 8 inches tall to 4 feet tall depending on the cultivar. They come in shades of pink, white, purple and red. My favorites are the ‘Perfume’ series which grow 20 inches tall, and ‘Whisper Mix” which can reach 3 to 4 feet tall. I grow them because they are a favorite of the hummingbirds that visit my backyard each summer.
