During the peak of daylily blooming season I was taking a stroll around my flowerbeds when this beauty caused me to gasp. No photo can do justice to these huge, bright-red blooms with the big yellow throat.
Yes there are a bazillion red daylily cultivars in the world, but these blooms are 7 inches across and make a can’t-miss display in any flowerbed. When the sun shines on them, the flowers are simply stunning.
Better yet, this cultivar really churns out the blooms. In fact I don’t remember ever dividing this daylily, and it’s been growing in one of my flowerbeds since 2007 (and yes, I now have a note to divide it this fall).
Despite my neglect and the fact that this daylily grows in a partial-sun location, it STILL sent up eight, 27-inch-tall sturdy scapes just loaded with blooms this summer.
‘Passion for Red’ is a semi-evergreen daylily that was registered in 1994 and won an American Hemerocallis Society Honorable Mention award in 1999.
