The last two weeks have been the peak of the amaryllis blooming season in my bay window, and it was just in time to bring some joy during the snowiest, coldest part of our winter! So far my favorite cultivar is ‘Cherry Blossom’.

This single Dutch amaryllis has huge white flowers with lovely pink striations in the petals. The flowers are forward-facing and open fully.

This cultivar is supposed to grow 18 to 20 inches tall. The first scape from my bulb reached 21 inches, and the second one topped out at 24 inches. At the top of each were 6 flowers trying get a piece of blooming real estate.

‘Cherry Blossom’ also has a little surprise in its center. It’s called an “eye” but it looks to me like someone dropped some dark red paint in the center with an eye dropper.

I potted up my bulb in early November, so it took about 8 weeks to bloom. The stalks stayed nice and straight with little fussing from me.

‘Cherry Blossom’ is definitely a keeper!
