Amaryllis ‘Matterhorn’

Snow white flowers appropriately top the scapes of Amaryllis ‘Matterhorn’. Named for one of the most famous mountains in Europe, the first flower stalk from this cultivar grew 28 inches tall for me with giant, 8-inch flowers.

Unfortunately that stalk only produced two flowers, however a second stalk should open in a few days, so we’ll see if the bud count improves.

The pure white flowers are out-facing. And the tall stalks both leaned not long after emerging from the bulb, so I staked them and I turned them at least once a day to keep them from bending toward the sunlight in the window.

Amaryllis ‘Matterhorn’ is a Single Dutch Amaryllis. I love the huge flowers, but unless it provides more of them, I’ll probably look for a different pure white amaryllis cultivar.
