The astilbes are really loving our Seattle-like weather this summer. This is ‘Younique Cerise’ showing off:

The bright, candy-pink flowers usually bloom toward the middle of July for me, but everything here is blooming about 3+ weeks ahead of schedule this season.

I’ve been growing this eye-catching little astilbe for more than 10 years now. It sits on a wall in a part-shade area that gets the full brunt of the north winds in the winter, and it also endures salt spray from snowplows. I’m really impressed with its hardiness.

The Younique series of astilbes (there’s also ‘Silvery Pink’, ‘Ruby Red’, ‘Lilac’ and ‘Carmine’) were bred in the Netherlands. The plants grow 15 to 17 inches tall and prefer part-shade or shade light conditions.
Like other astilbes, ‘Younique Cerise’ does best with regular watering. The plants are hardy in Zones 3-8.
