I get too excited about new-to-me daylilies and forget that the first blooms aren’t a good representation of what the plant has to offer. This was ‘Summer Pearls’ on June 24th, the first day it ever bloomed in my yard:
And this is what the newer flowers looked like 9 days later:
Notice the petals and sepals are whiter and less curved back, and are really showing off those “chicken fat” ruffled edges.
And when you get really close up you can see the diamond-dusted petals!
