I don’t know why I take daylily ‘Wineberry Candy’ for granted in my garden. This lovely plant churns out flowers for almost 2 months each summer regardless of the weather conditions, and the 5-inch blooms are fragrant. ‘Wineberry Candy’ grows only 22 inches high so it works well in the front or middle of the border.

The registered flower description is “orchid with a purple eyezone.” That’s not really how I would describe the flowers, but frankly I can’t do any better. In my garden they sometimes they appear fleshy-pink with a reddish-purple eyezone:

And other times I would describe them as cream-colored with a royal purple eyezone:

The flowers look particularly stunning planted with purple annuals or perennials. They would also dazzle in a cottage garden with pink or white blooms.

It’s about time I gave this wonderful daylily the respect it deserves.
