The American Hemerocallis Society recently announced their 2010 award winners. The coveted Stout Silver Medal Winner was bestowed upon ‘J.T. Davis’. I don’t own that cultivar, but I do grow two of the four runners-up. I’ve raved about ‘Swallow Tail Kite’ in the past. It’s one of the tallest daylilies in my collection at 44 inches. The 7-inch blooms are orchid-colored with a beautiful watermark:

‘Persian Ruby’ is no slouch either with its giant, 8-inch blooms:

The Lenington All-American Award is presented to a cultivar that performs well over a wide geographical area. The 2010 winner is ‘Peggy Jeffcoat’, one of my favorite doubles. This cultivar only grows 18 inches tall so it’s great for the front of the border. It will impress passersby with 7-inch, cream-colored flowers.

And finally, twelve cultivars are given the Award of Merit. I recently acquired ‘Wispy Rays’ which grows 36 inches tall and begs for attention with its bright red, 8-inch flowers:
