The tulips that I planted last fall are finally blooming. Because it’s been so chilly until now (we went from having the heat on to having the air conditioning on in the same 24 hours), all the tulips and daffodils are blooming about a month behind schedule.
When I placed my bulb order last fall, I decided to give a few double early tulip cultivars a try. I’m happy to report that I have become completely infatuated with them. They have gorgeous double blooms that look like peonies or roses. This is ‘Foxtrot’:
All of the double early tulips bloom on short, sturdy stalks (10 to 14 inches depending on the cultivar) which makes them quite weather-resistant. They open fully on sunny days and are deliciously fragrant.
‘Foxtrot’ grows 10 to 12 inches tall. Most of the flowers are pink with darker-pink undertones, but others are more cream-colored with splashes of pink.
