Geranium ‘Rozanne’ has become my go-to perennial. This 2008 “Perennial Plant of the Year” starts blooming in early-to-mid-June and keeps churning out flowers until frost. It’s the longest-blooming perennial I have ever grown.
‘Rozanne’ has a mounding habit that makes it great for inter-planting with taller perennials like daylilies and roses. The cool, violet-blue flowers complement many different flower colors.
The amazing part about ‘Rozanne’ is that you don’t have to fuss with it to enjoy a summer’s worth of blooms. ‘Rozanne’ requires no shearing, no trimming and no deadheading. The flowers just keep coming and coming. You can’t beat that! Well, maybe you can. The plants don’t have any pest or disease problems either.
‘Rozanne’ grows in sun or part-shade and is hardy in zones 5-9 (I’m in Zone 5a). Three of my six plants are growing in a very harsh, exposed location, and all of them have survived some nasty Wisconsin winters without protection. If you live in Zone 4, it might still be worth giving ‘Rozanne’ a try. She’s a blooming fool.
