Visiting a garden center in June is like visiting the dog pound for me. I hate to see all those sad plants that still don’t have a home. Perennials can fend for themselves, but it’s harder for garden centers to sell leggy annuals and bulbs that have already bloomed for the year.
However, sometimes you can find really good bargains. This year I “rescued” Asiatic lily ‘Tiny Bell’ from certain doom.
This miniature lily was originally bred for containers, but makes a nice front-of-the-border plant. The flowers are dark pink with a golden-yellow center.
‘Tiny Bell’ grows 12-16 inches tall in full sun or part shade.
