Koreanspice Viburnum

I planted a Koreanspice Viburnum in my yard four years ago and added a second one two years ago, and I’ve been absolutely thrilled with these flowering-shrubs.

They haven’t had any pest or disease problems, and they have easily tolerated everything from severe winters to extremely dry summers. Even better, other than cleaning up a few broken branches, I really haven’t had to prune them much either.

Both of my specimens are thriving under the high shade of oak trees. The 4-year-old shrub has grown from 3 feet to 8 feet tall. The two-year-old shrub is in a very exposed location and is still about 3 feet tall but it blooms like crazy.

Few things smell more heavenly than Koreanspice Viburnum flowers. I’ve been stopped in my tracks more than once by their lovely scent wafting through the air.

These shrubs grow 6 to 8 feet tall in sun or partial shade. They are listed as hardy in Zones 5-7, but if you are in a borderline zone, it might be worth giving one of these beauties a try. We’ve had some pretty brutal winters since I planted my first shrub, and it’s never experienced the slightest hint of dieback or stress.
