Vexing Vermin

Last summer I planted some new shrubs. My ‘Autumn Brilliance’ Chokeberry took off nicely and by fall it was almost 3 feet tall. To be on the safe side I surrounded the bottom of all my new shrubs with chicken wire to protect them from munching winter critters.

When I was outside filling my birdfeeders the other day, I noticed that my poor chokeberry is now barely a foot high. The rabbits took advantage of the heavy snowpack we had in December to crawl right over the chicken wire and help themselves.
