These are the little pop-up greenhouses I use every year to harden off my plants while keeping them protected from the harsh sun and critters until they are ready to be planted in my flowerbeds.
You can zip them up and then they have ventilation windows on both sides so the seedlings won’t cook.
Last week I had my plants in the porch because storms were in the forecast. The greenhouses can handle gentle rains, but not winds and heavy downpours. One of the greenhouses was unzipped–just on one side. The other side was zipped shut. I saw a rabbit go in there and disappear into the zipped-up side.
For a moment I had fantasies of corralling that rabbit and taking it to our office property. Unfortunately I was about to leave for an event and didn’t have time for such an adventure (that I’m sure would’ve ended with her escaping from the greenhouse at the last minute anyway).
A couple of days later when I finished planting all the flowers and didn’t need the greenhouses anymore, I started to take them down. That’s when I discovered this:
Well she’s certainly no dummy! Because she chose to dig that hole under my pop-up greenhouse, it was out of sight from predators and also had a nice protective plastic roof over it.
Thankfully she hadn’t given birth yet, so the 8-inch-deep hole was empty, and I was able to cover it up.
The other day I saw her out in the lawn standing near the now-covered hole, and I expected her to try again, but she must’ve found a better location for her next batch of cute little flower-eating beasts.
