Asiatic Lily ‘Night Flyer’ survived the bunny onslaught, and just like last year when I laid eyes on them for the first time, the flowers are a stunning sight to behold.
In the shade or on cloudy days their color is a dark, purple-red:
But in the sun they scream to life and the color changes to more of a blackish-red, and the petals are so shiny that the flowers glow in the sunlight. The best part is that the color doesn’t fade in the hot sun.
‘Night Flyer’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall. This year my plants were closer to 4 feet tall.
Asiatic lilies bloom in early to mid-summer and prefer full sun. They’ll bloom happily in partial-shade, but they may need to be staked.
