Understated

Even thought it’s getting more difficult to grow tall zinnias in all the shade that’s encroaching upon my yard, I press on. One of my flowerbeds still gets a fair amount of sun in the afternoon, so I still anchor the back row with zinnias. Usually I grow the Benary’s series or the Park’s Pick series zinnias which grow 40 to 50 inches tall.

This year I also tried the dahlia-flowered creamy yellow zinnia from Johnny’s which also grows 40 to 50 inches:

I love the color. It’s a butter yellow and much more subtle than the typical golden-yellow zinnias. This zinnia would look great in a cottage garden where colors are more muted.
