The second scape from Amaryllis ‘Cocktail’ must’ve been in a big hurry because it started blooming before it was barely out of the ground. The scape grew about 4 inches, leaned over at an almost-45-degree-angle and started unfurling its blossoms.
I thought the scape would be a bit wobbly at that angle, but there’s no moving it. That’s one sturdy stem.
The plant knew exactly what it was doing because the flowers are able to open up without touching the flowers on the older scape.
I hope there’s not a third scape in that bulb. It might just open up at soil level!
