I bought a tiny basil plant at the farmer’s market in early fall. I wanted to see if I could grow it in my sunny south-facing window over the winter. So far the experiment has been a grand success. My plant has grown quite a bit and seems very happy in its 8-inch pot.
The only drawback is that basil is perpetually thirsty. I have to water the plant every couple of days. If I forget it droops pathetically.
I love being able to be able to snip off fresh basil leaves for a recipe in the dead of winter. It’s a wonderful little taste of summer.
