I was intrigued by the ‘Mona Lavender’ plectranthus plants I saw growing at the Rotary Gardens in Janesville last summer. Plectranthus are mostly grown for their foliage, but ‘Mona Lavender’ also has pretty purple-and-lavender flowers:
These tropical beauties are grown as houseplants, but they can also be grown in the garden as annuals. The plants prefer shade and moist soil.
After last fall’s tree-trimming extravaganza, I’m not sure I have much shade to offer, but if I see one of these plants for sale, I’m going to give it a try.
