It’s that quiet phase in the garden when the spring bulbs and flowering shrubs are done showing off, but most of the perennials and annuals haven’t quiet yet started blooming. I’m getting antsy.
I do have a handful blooms to enjoy right now. My first daylily popped out on Saturday. It’s usually a contest between ‘Double Cutie’ and ‘Stella in Yella’, but this year ‘Stella in Yella’ bloomed first:
Years ago my mother-in-law shared some of her clustered bellflowers with me. They’ve grown into a big healthy clump and some of the flowers are almost ready to open and display their dark-purple flowers:
Butterfly weeds are one of the last flowers to peek out of the ground in my flowerbeds, but I bought a couple of new plants this spring to help the monarch butterflies. One of the plants already had big buds on it when I bought it and now they’ve opened:
